Most editors shoot on cameras and keep little free space on their internal drive, so the common loop is: card → external drive → Kino. The Kino desktop app ships an agent skill that handles this end to end, including the failure modes: unverified copies, drives that won’t mount, cards ejected mid-import. The skill is advertised through the MCP server, so any connected agent can follow it. You don’t install anything extra.

Run it

Plug in the card and the destination drive, then ask your agent:
Offload today’s clips from my SD card to the LaCie and add them to Kino

What the agent does

1

Identifies the card and the drive

Both mount under /Volumes. The agent confirms which volume is the card and which is the destination before touching anything.
2

Finds the media

Cameras bury files in brand-specific folder trees, so the agent searches the whole card by file type (video and stills, including raw formats) and groups results by day when you scope the request to “today” or “the past few days”.
3

Copies only what's missing

It diffs the card against the destination first, so re-running after an interrupted offload is cheap and safe. Every copy is size-verified.
4

Imports to Kino

The copied files on the external drive (not the card) are imported with addMediaToKino, and AI analysis starts immediately.
5

Ejects safely

The card is ejected through diskutil. Skipping this step is what corrupts drives.
Before a large copy, the agent reports file counts, total size, and free space on the destination so you can confirm.

Recovering a drive that won’t mount

If an external drive was yanked without ejecting, it can refuse to mount afterward (the exFAT “dirty bit”). The skill covers this too. Ask your agent:
My external drive won’t show up in Finder, can you fix it?
