What formats does Kino support?

Standard video

Containers: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MPEG Transport Stream (.ts), the MPEG program stream family (.mpg, .mpeg, .vob), and AVI (.avi), including OpenDML AVIs over 1 GB.

In AVI files, Kino plays Motion JPEG, H.264, DV, DivX/Xvid (MPEG-4 Part 2) and DivX 3 video with PCM, MP3, AAC, AC-3 or E-AC-3 audio, including the Motion JPEG AVIs some older Canon cameras name .MP4.

Container support does not guarantee codec support. If a file does not import cleanly, send the camera model, file extension, codec, and a short sample to [e-mail].

HEIC files are converted to JPEG in your browser before upload. iPhone “Live Photo” motion data is not preserved. Only the still image is kept. HDR tone mapping is also not carried over.

Camera RAW

Blackmagic RAW (.braw) and RED RAW (.r3d) are supported — see Pro Media Support. Other camera RAW formats, including ARRI RAW and Canon Cinema RAW Light, are not currently part of the standard upload path.
