# Media

> Drop in footage and Kino processes, indexes, and streams it

Drag files into Kino and start working. iPhone clips, YouTube pulls, and 6K camera RAW all go through the same pipeline: Kino uploads, generates proxies, and runs analysis jobs in the background while you edit.

Professional formats — ProRes, DNxHD/DNxHR, Blackmagic RAW, RED R3D, and MXF including OP-Atom — play directly in the browser with no transcode step. See [Pro Media Support](https://kino.ai/docs/features/pro-media-support.md) for the full codec list, and [What formats does Kino support?](https://kino.ai/docs/faq/faq-what-formats.md) for standard video, audio, and image formats.

## What happens after you import

Every file you add kicks off a set of analysis jobs. They run in parallel when possible, and each one adds a different kind of metadata to your footage.

| Job | What it does | Output |
| - | - | - |
| **Transcribing** | Converts spoken dialogue into searchable text with speaker identification | Time-coded transcript with speaker labels |
| **Scanning visuals** | Identifies objects, scenes, and visual elements | Time-coded visual index |
| **Detecting faces** | Finds and tracks the people in your footage | People you can filter and search by |
| **Generating chapters** | Writes clip-level summaries for logging | Descriptions and chapters per clip |

Together these jobs build the index that powers [search, logging](https://kino.ai/docs/features/search-and-logging.md), chat, and agents working with your library. Proxies for remote playback are generated separately in your browser during upload — see [Local & Remote Media](https://kino.ai/docs/local-remote-media.md) for how playback picks between original files and streams.

## Monitoring jobs

The Jobs page shows the processing status of every file: transcription, visual analysis, logging, and proxy generation.

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Possible cause | Solution |
| - | - | - |
| Jobs stuck at "Processing" | Unsupported file or interrupted upload | Check [supported formats](https://kino.ai/docs/faq/faq-what-formats.md), then re-upload the file |
| Failed transcription | Poor audio quality or no speech in the file | Check that the file has an audio track with dialogue |
| Missing visual analysis | Very dark or blurry footage | The visual index is best-effort on degraded footage |
