# Agent to agent

> Have the agent in one chat send work to the agent in another chat and get its answer back

The agent in one chat can ask the agent in another of your chats to do something and get its answer back. You might grade in one chat and mix in another, and have the grade chat check with the mix chat before you lock the grade.

## Try it yourself

**1. Open two chats in a project**

Double-click the second chat's tab and name it **Sound mix**.

**2. In the first chat, send this**

Ask Sound mix whether the music is ducked under every line of dialogue.

**3. Read the answer**

A card appears in the first chat with the request and its status. When Sound mix has answered, the reply appears under the card.

Name the chat you want the agent to reach. The agent finds chats by the title on the chat tab, not by view name.

## What the card shows

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Queued | The other chat is busy. The request starts when its current turn ends. |
| Working | The other agent is working on the request. |
| Replied | The answer is under the card. |
| Cancelled | The request was cancelled, or the other chat was stopped. |
| Failed | The request could not be delivered or the other agent hit an error. The card shows the error. |
| Check recipient | Kino can't tell whether the other agent finished. Open that chat and look before you ask again. |

Click the chat name on the card to open the other chat. It shows the same card, the request and the answer.

The answer doesn't start a new turn in the chat that asked. To act on it, send that chat a message.

## What to know

* It works for chats on [Claude Code](https://kino.ai/docs/agents/claude-code.md), [Codex](https://kino.ai/docs/agents/codex.md) or the Kino Agent.
* An agent reaches only your own chats in the organization you are signed in to. Viewer seats can't use it.
* The other chat can be in another [view](https://kino.ai/docs/panels/views.md) or have its tab closed. It must have been opened once in the desktop app on this computer.
* The other agent works with its own project, model and permission setting, as if you had typed the request into that chat.
* Pressing Stop in a chat cancels the request it is working on. That chat takes no new requests until you send it a message.
* A request can be up to 20,000 characters. Agents can pass requests along a chain up to 8 deep.
